YDF Recipients 2010

These are the 16 scholarship recipients which the Napier City Council Youth Council awarded to young people in our community to ensure they can make the most of every opportunity and to support them in achieving their dreams and goals.

Name  School/Work  Why do you need the funds? 
Alexandra Lowrey  Napier Girls High School  Support funds for piano lessons and exams up to grade 8. Alexandra is also tutoring other youth and received the Trinity College Award in 2004.  
Cameron Massie  Napier Boys High School  For orienteering gear to compete in local and regional competitions. Cameron aims to win the NZ Secondary Schools championship to represent NZ at Junior World Champs in Slovenia.  
Georgie Smithers  Tamatea High School  Towards a digital media course is for 15 weeks that would lead to a Diploma in Graphic Design.  
Hayden McCormack  Tamatea High School  To complete the last part of national Certificate in Equine-Stable Practice. Hayden plans to work in the equine industry.  
Horowai Puketapu  Napier Boys High School  Selected as 2010 Junior Black Sox that toured Australia to play a test series. Aims to represent NZ in the senior team in the future. 
Jack Roberts  Napier Boys High School  Travel costs to cover flight to compete in the national swimming contest in Christchurch on September. Top breaststroker for Aquahawkes and one day aims to represent NZ at Commonwealth Games. 
Josie Hickling  William Colenso College  Participate as a volunteer at a refugee camp in Thailand and will work with local youth. She is in Thailand at this moment. 
Justin Warena  Tamatea High School  Purchase a block of native wood probably totara to carve out a taiaha. He's the leader of the school kapahaka group and aims to study Maori and eventually join the Police force.  
Laura Ferrick  Sacred Heart College  Support costs to attend the Spirit of Adventure in August. To improve leadership role, build confidence and public speaking.  
Lisa Kitchin  Napier Girls High School  Netball trip to Australia for top senior team from NGHS. Actively involved in a number of sports and motivated to be the best that she can be.  
Madeline Taylor  Napier Girls High School  Travel costs to travel to Canada to represent NZ in Downhill Mountain Bike championship.  
Raniera King  Tamatea High School  Purchase of running shoes to assist his involvement in a number of activities especially boot camps at school. Aims to be a PT instructor for NZ Army.  
Reuben Cooper  Napier Boys High School  Contribute to junior coaching course in tennis. Enjoys coaching tennis to other youth and younger age group. 
Shaun Bates  Napier Boys High School  Towards flying lessons at Bridge Pa aerodrome and hoping to get a flyig scholarship to continue progress. Aims to be a pilot for RNZAF. 
Te Whetu Barbarich  Tamatea High School  Costs towards kick boxing gear. Aspires to be NZ kick boxing champion by age of 21. 
Thomas Key  Taradale High School  Cost for development training with NZ kayaking squad in September. Has competed and won age group national titles in past 4 years. Want to fly NZ flag in the seniors event.
