We actually need somewhere free to skate in Napier city but where we will not be annoying residents. I wish the council would rebuild the skate bowl and put in some stairs, rails, hips, kickers etc..... I try to skate everyday but $3.00 per day at the sk8 zone is actually too steep for my folks week in and week out! Why do other cities have cool open free spaces inner city for everyone and we have a one stop for the bikers, skaters rightdown to the 3 yr olds on scooters and roller blades.
Is it true that outside the council they are allowed to confiscate our boards and we have to pay $20.00 to get them back? I am sick of being yelled at and been told to 'get lost!' just for being around town with a skateboard. The council could really do something for a large number of us kids who just want to enjoy being around the buzz of town. The residents are all saying not in our backyard but this is our city too. A youth centre could begin with a space where we are allowed to be - I mean an old carpark like over between pak n save and the old naper travel centre.....cant someone help? Yeah i really think we should have a youth centre or somewhere youth can hang out because todays youth need that kind of support. even if it is just a place to hang out you can call upon youth servics and bring them in to talk with the youth or just hanging around seeing if they can get them onto courses or something they would prefer to do if they are in no sort of activity. but then again the youth will have to sacrifice something aswell. They will have to agree to connecting with other youth and making ends with new people. instead of a youth centre maybe you can have a iceskating rank or just somewhere we can keep our youth out of trouble
and have fun. But dont forget, to Teenagers we see Youth as 15-19year olds. Not 7-14year olds so we wouldnt want a place to hang where there is little kids hanging around us. - 21/12/2009 |
Napier defiantly does need somewhere fun for us teens to go, there are too many teenagers doing drugs and partying too much. They need some motivation to get out there and do something positive with their life and people encouraging them. Thanks, I hope someting is done soon. Anon - 08/11/2009 |

A youth centre being ?
a place for advice - free councillors
a hang out - place for teens e.g. a juice bar?
I'm not sure of the exact definition of "youth Centre"
but i strongly believe "we" need a place to be with our peers (15-18) somewhere for a friday && saturday night out where we can dance , relax mingle and maybe like a juice bar - close to town. i'm happy to pay a comission ! also maybe try to get bands and stuff to play
WE NEED SOMEWHERE !!

YESSS!! i go to Tamatea High School - and i see and hear alot it's awful.
there was also a recent suicide which has affected the school terribly i believe that the school councillor isn't enough i mean yes he is great but we need more!
somewhere kids can stay until another enviroment has been sorted out - somewhere Were we can get legal and personal advice. where we can just hang with other teens - a safe haven . i know a boy that ran away saturday night - he's 15 where was he supposed to go? i think it's disguisting we don't already have one!
please act soon. ANON - 21/09/2009 |
I think that a youth centre in Napier would be of great influence to the wider youth. Youth feel that there is nothing cheap or free to do and so they just hang around town or clive square making trouble. Somewhere that youth could go for free or cheap that is fun and enjoyable could not only stop boredom but potentially stop trouble makers. Laura - 15/09/2009 |
yes i think we should because the more support i think is better. i am on a cource with cafs and it really helps me i know if there was more support like a center only good things could really impact on the teens Bellah - 10/09/2009 |
