About Us

Napier City Council works and supports youth through the Youth Council of Napier so local youth have a voice for their ideas, views and are able to link back to Council. Council also liaise with youth workers, service providers, schools, other Councils and central government agencies to discuss youth issues, share ideas and support programmes and events.

The Youth Council of Napier, also known as YCON, is the best opportunity for local youth to share issues, ideas and discuss or work on possible solutions with Council.

YCON representatives are normally nominated from the main secondary schools in Napier. This process is being reviewed to include youth aged from 12 to 24 years inclusive.

Council supports YCON with administration, information about council business and decisions, access to resources, venues and training. YCON also like to organise and support fun events such as the Dane Rumble Concert held last May at the Rodney Green Centennial Event Centre Hall attended by 2,000.

The Hawke’s Bay Youth Workers Collective is a collaborative group of representatives working with youth or provide services and support from Napier, Hastings, Wairoa and Central Hawke’s Bay. Council is one of the key partners for this youth collective.
